STATE V. MARIANNE BIANCUZZO

Ms. Biancuzzo was the young Tucsonan accused of first degree murder in the drowning death of her newborn infant. Ms. Biancuzzo then hid the body in a coffee can. The State insisted on seeking a life sentence for first degree murder. After a three week trial in November, 1998, the jury found that the death was accidental, negligent homicide, and Ms. Biancuzzo received a sentence of probation.

STATE V. ALLING AND VAN THILLO The Biosphere Break in Case

Abigail Alling and Mark Van Thillo were members of the original group of seven scientists who spent two years sealed inside the Biosphere. They were arrested and accused in 1994 of burglary, criminal damage and trespassing for opening up the sealed environment after a corporate take over. Jesse Smith got all charges dismissed, arguing that their actions were motivated by their concern that the crew was in jeopardy and not motivated by any criminal intent. Alling and Van Thillo later won a civil judgement against the Biosphere.

USA V. SEAMUS MOLEY The Tucson Six case

Mr. Moley was one of the defendants in the Tucson Six Case; Irish Republicans accused of conspiring to obtain Stinger Missiles and explosives in the United States for use against the British government in Northern Ireland. The U. S. Government was seeking a life sentence. After several years of litigation Mr. Moley received an 11 month sentence and agreed to return to Ireland.

STATE V. DENVER AND ANNA VETETO

Denver and Anna Veteto were a couple in their 50s with no prior criminal record. Two of their grown daughters claimed their parents kidnapped and beat them. Both parents were convicted and sentenced to 10.5 years in prison. Jesse Smith was hired by family members to win a new trial. After a two year legal battle, a new trial was ordered and all charges dismissed when our investigator uncovered evidence withheld by the State, that the daughters were lying.
